The Programming and Evaluation Support Unit (PESU) of the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) have a strong mandate to strengthen capacity within the Organisation through training, coaching and technical support. CIDT was commissioned to design a short training of trainers programme covering the topics of technical course design and experiential Training of Trainers. Since the PESU team includes a number of highly experienced trainers, CIDT’s Ella Haruna notes that this was an “Advanced ToT.”
Participants appreciated:
“The complex and comprehensive preparation for training topics, exercises were very interesting and helpful to understand practical side of the theory; handouts were very helpful.”
“Amazing facilitation skill and made us feel both individually and collectively at ease very early on. A gradual building up on the training content, good tips and additions to what the participants covered.”
“The training practice on the last day and personalized feedback to each participant was particularly useful.”
Participants worked as individuals or in pairs to deliver a short training session which they had designed for their peers. Each participant received written feedback from the facilitator and verbal peer assessment, following their own self-reflection.
The OSCE has a comprehensive approach to security that encompasses politico-military, economic and environmental, and human aspects. It addresses a wide range of security-related concerns, including arms control, confidence- and security-building measures, human rights, national minorities, democratization, policing strategies, counter-terrorism and economic and environmental activities. All 57 participating States enjoy equal status, and decisions are taken by consensus on a politically, but not legally binding basis.
