Des has 30 years’ experience in international development with a specialism in natural resources management (NRM) and demonstrated expertise in capacity development and program/project management. He has managed a number of development projects with up to €1 million turn over per annum, and is skilled at conducting Quality Assurance (QA) and applying results-based management (RBM) principles, models and tools such as the Project/Programme Cycle Management (PPCM) and the Logical Framework Approach (LFA). He has worked extensively in Africa on the community-based rural development and the interface between biology and anthropology with regards to NRM; and in the last decade has increasingly conducted short-term assignments worldwide in the field of forest governance and climate change adaptation. Des has experience in review, appraisal, procurement, recruitment and budgeting with the European Commission (EC), World Bank (WB), various United Nations agencies, UK DFID- and LSC- funded programmes. He is an expert trainer in project management, RBM/LFA/PPCM, participatory appraisal methods, aid effectiveness and training of trainers (TOT).
