Project Proposal Development

Course overview

This is an intensive and highly interactive workshop that builds participants’ capacity to design results-based projects or programs and to develop real proposals that can be submitted to donors for funding. It consists of two parts: first, seven simple steps for designing a results-based project or program, using a range of results-based management (RBM) tools including the Logical Framework Approach; and second, a series of sessions featuring principles, processes, and tips for transforming the project ideas and LogFrame into a full Project Proposal that can be submitted to any donor for funding. The concepts and tools used are applicable to any sector or donor, yet the workshop can be tailored to specific contexts if desired.

Course objectives

By the end of this course participants will have:

  • Improved their capacity to design results-based projects/programs and develop successful project proposals, using a variety of tools including the logical framework approach (LFA).
  • Acquired a solid base of material for drawing up a project proposal to attract funding (i.e., a draft LogFrame and notes forming a proposal outline).

Approach

This course uses highly participatory methodologies, including individual reading, pair exercises, and extensive group work. The programme not only covers key concepts and tools of project design and proposal writing/budgeting, but it also features real examples and practical ‘hands on’ working sessions. Participants ‘learn by doing,’ and the outputs of the workshop are draft LogFrames and Project Design notes for 1 to 4 projects, which can be developed into full proposals post-workshop. Following the workshop, trainers/facilitators from CIDT can even be contracted to provide at-distance technical assistance to review and provide constructive feedback the participants’ draft proposals.

  • Tools for project/program design: Stakeholder Analysis, Problem Analysis/Trees, Objectives Trees, the Logical Framework Approach (LFA), Risk Analysis, Workplans and Budgets
  • Key principles and tips for successful project proposals
  • Requirements of different donors, including evaluation criteria of proposals
  • Planning for and submitting the technical and financial proposal
  • Group work to develop real project ideas, LogFrames, and draft proposals
